LaFÊTE 2023-24

Come and celebrate New Year's in Montreal
this December 29th - January 1st

Join us for lots of New Year’s tango fun, in a casual, friendly atmosphere. This annual New Year’s celebration is a wonderful celebration of everything Montreal Tango is known for!
Authentic tango danced by true afficinados of all ages in a warm, informal and classy atmosphere,
Organised by Projet Tango in the Studio Tango/Tango Social Club space, LaFête profits go to help fund our Bailongo Montreal Tango Festival held each spring.

As during past years, we'll be offering a collection of affordable afternoon and evening milongas including a spectacular soirée for New Year's Eve. Buy a pass and come to everything, or pick and choose on a pay-per-milonga basis.

Starting on Friday, Nov. 29th and going through to Monday, January 1st, we are planning 4 Super Milongas. Events will feature a few of our favourite Dj's including

  • Francis ''Pancho'' Cloutier (Montreal),

  • Gabriel ‘‘El Huracan’’ (Formerly of Montreal, now DC)

  • Milton ''El Gallo'' Azevedo (Boston area)

  • Bruno Afonso (formerly of Boston & DC now Ottawa).

Mark off your calendar for the best tango party of the year!

When/HOW can I buy tickets?

Everyone will be able to join in . . . even those who procrastinate up until the very last minute 🤣
We prefer to keep things casual, like at a regular milonga - we feel it keeps things more fun . . . . and less stuffy!

Lafête tickets can all be bought individually (or with a pass) and for the most part, may be purchased at the door, right up until the last minute*

* We are considering limiting the number of spots for this year’s New Year’s eve.
Not so much because we don’t have enough space, but more because it makes things soooooooooooo much easier for us to plan on how much bubbly to buy and all that ………. so please reserve in advance for that evening if you can (plus it will be cheaper if you buy in advance!)

Convenient Milonga Pass

All milonga tickets can be purchased individually.

We also offer this convenient milonga pass for 75$

Payments possible via Interac Transfer to studiotango@gmail.com (with pword: tango) via Paypal to studiotango@gmail.com

or by credit card.

The La Fete Milongas

To buy your tickets, simply add up the total amount and send it to us by Interac Transfer or Paypal to studiotango@gmail.com. (Interac transfers should use the password: tango).

Tickets for each milonga may also be purchased by credit card by clicking on an image that corresponds to the ticket that you wish to buy. This will bring you to a shopping cart page, so you will be able to buy tickets for more than one evening.
Tickets may be purchased at the door as well.

The Tango Social Club - Studio Tango Montréal location

7755 St-Laurent Boulevard, #200-A&B Montréal QC, H2R 1X1. 514 844 2786
Métros de Castelnau or Jarry or 55 bus

All of the La Fête Milongas will be held here!

The Studio Tango Montréal / Tango Social Club space is located at 7755 boul. St-Laurent in the up-and-coming Villeray district.  The space includes two large studios, each with a very distinctive style plus a smaller studio that is used mainly for private classes and small rehearsals.  What's truly wonderful, is that it's even possible to open up a passageway between the two larger spaces so that both studios can be used simultaneously during a milonga, upping the capacity to well over 300.

Villeray : Village feel, family-oriented, full of artists' and craftmen's studios and hipster cafes.  Landmarks include the beautiful Jarry Park (just across the street from our venue) and the wonderful Jean-Talon market.

A bit more info about the local tango scene
THE LOCAL STUDIOS

Montreal has quite a few schools that teach exclusively argentine tango.  All the milongas you will go to during New Year's are held in local tango studios which transform their spaces into milongas one night (or more) each week.

THE MONTREAL MILONGA VIBE
Montrealers like to go out, (in fact it is literally possible to dance tango every single night of the year in Montreal).  “Atmosphere” is omni-important here.  All our milongas  (big and small) have a “club feel” (nice lighting, candles, tables & chairs, bars *), great dance floors,  DJ’s who know their tango music, and excellent sound systems.

* Most milongas in Montreal have bars at which you can buy drinks (some sell alcohol) and at which you should tip the bar person (15% +).   It is not cool to bring your own beverages and it is illegal to bring in your own alcoholic drinks. Last call for alcohol is at 3 am. Generally, no food is sold, nor are any snacks provided unless otherwise mentioned.

**  We have a liquor permit for the LaFete activities: Beer, wine, mousseux, & spirits as well as various non-alcoholic drinks will be for sale at the bar.
A glass of mousseux will be offered to everyone at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

WHAT TO WEAR- HOW TO DRESS
In Montreal, anything goes fashion-wise, but it should be noted that in general Montrealers tend to dress up a bit more on the weekend nights, and for sure New Year's Eve brings out the party dresses, so be prepared for a bit of sparkle!

CABACEOS, TANDAS & OTHER  DANCE FLOOR STUFF
The cabaceo is not used by everyone here.  Many just go over and invite.  In Montreal it is not unheard of for women to invite men, although perhaps not done frequently between complete strangers.  Hint for people coming alone:  Try and hang out near the water cooler or snack table. In most milongas it is the best area of the room for mingling.

The milongas are less crowded towards the beginning and ends of each evening.  Arriving early when there are less people can often help facilitate mixing and meeting new people.
